FAQ

Any packing tips?
Pack for heat and humidity – light-weight cotton clothing is ideal. In the hill country the nights can be chilly, so taking a light woollen top is advisable.
At the beach it is acceptable to wear shorts, vests, swimwear etc. However, away from the beach the dress code is conservative and it is normal to wear loose, long clothing. It is recommended to pack a hat, sunglasses and high-factor sun cream.
Insect repellent is also useful, particularly when sitting out in the evenings.
It is recommended to pack a light shawl or jacket and trousers if entering religious sites.
Do I need a visa to visit Sri Lanka?
British passport holders need a visa to visit Sri Lanka and this can now be arranged electronically at https://www.eta.gov.lk. The cost is USD50 per person. For children below the age of 12 years, the visa is free. You will be allowed to stay for 30 days.
Remember to ensure that your UK passport is valid for 6 months after the date you plan to arrive.
What about mobile SIM cards?
If you would like a SIM card, which give access to a local telecommunication network, please let us know and we can get this arranged. Alternatively, our representative will be happy to assist you in obtaining a SIM card at the airport on arrival.
What are the unspoken rules of tipping in Sri Lanka?
Tipping drivers is an accepted practice, and we recommend tipping chauffeur-guides anything upwards of $10 per full-day for satisfactory service.
This is especially beneficial on long tours when drivers may be away from home for long periods.
What should I consider just before departure?
We know heading off on holiday is always a little bit stressful, especially on the day you leave, so we would advise doing these things before you depart:
Check you have all your necessary documentation, including your passport!
Take a photo of your documents and email it to yourself and travelling partners. Having a copy on your phone always comes in handy too.
Ensure you have all your chargers and converters for any phones, cameras, tablets you are taking. A portable battery pack is a handy item to have in your hand luggage.
Take snacks and a big bottle of water for your flight.
Get to the airport with plenty of time to spare, we advise arriving 3 hours prior to your flight departure.
Pack a change of clothes in your hand luggage and take a photo of your checked bag in case it goes missing en route.
Sit back and relax knowing we have your holiday sorted!
What about Sri Lankan currency?
The currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee, which you can easily get from ATMs and exchange facilities in cities (although less easily in rural areas). We would recommend taking USD for tipping and additional spending. Credit/debit cards are also accepted in many shopping outlets and hotels.
